£1B Belfast Smart District Strategy

Development of an implementation roadmap for a Smart District in Belfast aimed at accelerating an inclusive, sustainable, and citizencentred urban transformation lead by the uptake of innovative data and digital technologies. The project leverages on the Belfast Region City Deal to develop a lighthouse Smart District as a testing ground in a real-life environment, addressing the most pressing issues of the city and a Digital Innovation platform and partnership to facilitate the development of the digital ecosystem. The project aimed at bringing together strategic vision from the city leadership with the ideas and goals of the local stakeholders through an 8-month long co-creation process involving more than 200 local and regional representatives.

The main objective of this work is to inform the development of a framework for a Welsh Government S3 and thus support the EU COHES3ION project, by undertaking an evidence-based analysis and a broad stakeholder consultation, in close collaboration with the Welsh Government, for the identification of concrete specialisations as well as opportunities to ensure the successful adoption of place-based innovation and thus inclusive economic prosperity across Wales.

This collaborative effort aims to leverage the power of digital technologies, data-driven insights, and sustainable practices to address the mobility challenges faced in Ireland.

Smart Dunfermline Workshop Series

Dunfermline became Scotland’s newest city in 2022. A series of expert workshops were designed by BABLE Smart Cities to help Fife Council use its recently acquired city status to accelerate the use of smart within the local authority. These activities enabled the council to better implement a smart approach and to leverage existing smart investment, including a £48 million European Regional Development Fund programme to support smart city projects across Scottish cities.

The project in Dundee aims to tackle the current disjointed approach to data training across different city departments, addressing the varying levels of capacity and focus that hinder effective data utilization. It underscores the need for a standardized training program to foster better collaboration and overcome barriers in utilizing net-zero data for strategic decision-making. The central goal of the project is to empower individuals with enhanced skills and knowledge in data handling, thereby improving decision-making processes and elevating data literacy citywide. By incorporating lessons from Smart Cities and Communities Best Practices, the project intends to create a robust training program that will enable optimal data use for informed decisions, directly supporting Dundee's ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045.

Data Ecosystem Ecosystem for Liverpool City Region

Development of a study with highlights from international good practice in urban data management and identification of opportunities to be applied in the Liverpool City Region. The ultimate goal of the project is to support the formation of world-class data ecosystems that are able to underpin better policy and practice, to build local cases for improved central government support, to enable businesses to plan, invest and operate, to empower citizens and to undergird academic research.
