Challenge / Goal

Applied new sustainable mobility models in Alcobendas, which came in eight on the Smart Cities Index of Spanish cities in 2023 (ISCE).

Local adaptation when deploying connected mobility solutions is crucial to consider the needs and characteristics of each location. In the case of Alcobendas, located approximately 13 kilometers north of Madrid and 7 kilometers from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, its high concentration of corporate headquarters, boasting over 16,000 companies within 44 km2, and a daily influx of more than 80,000 people, coupled with the passage of the A1 highway and various urban developments, creates opportunities for implementing new sustainable mobility models. Alcobendas has secured the eighth position in the 2023 Spanish Smart Cities Index (ISCE), highlighting its potential for innovative mobility solutions.

With Meep Alcobendas, users can access combinations of more sustainable intermodal routes (whether they are the cheapest, fastest, most eco-friendly, or healthiest) for moving around the area or commuting to work daily. This approach advances a model that prioritizes access to more accessible and environmentally friendly transportation options, saving travel time, and helping reduce costs and harmful emissions.

A project to improve urban and corporate mobility in Alcobendas and Northern Madrid which placed this municipality at the forefront of mobility in Spain.
