Challenge / Goal

There are three Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs)  of which the city centre is of most concern due to a higher number of pollution exceedances of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) recorded here compared to other areas. As such Aberdeen City Council is looking at the feasibiility of implementing a Low Emission Zone. Accompanying this is a range of other demand management measures to try and encourage more active and sustainable modes of travel.

Solution

A Strategic Car Parking Review was undertaken during 2017 and 2018 which essentially formed a baseline of car parking in the city centre. This was then used to form a suite of recommendations which were noted by Council Committee in June 2019. Alongside this modelling has been undertaken to assist with the identification and appraisal of Low Emission Zone scenarios as well as to undertake public and stakeholder engagement.

Citizen participation

A large public consultation exercise was undertaken as part of the Strategic Car Parking Review stdy-this included online surveys as well as stakeholder meetings.
