The Documenta Ciudad y Territorio Digital, prepared by the Observatorio 2030 of the Consejo Superior de los Colegios de Arquitectos de España (CSCAE), addresses the digitization of the built environment in all its dimensions and scales, from buildings to rural territory and urban public space.

The document proposes 75 lines of action between now and 2030 to achieve more livable spaces capable of making a more rational and intelligent use of resources.

The guide gathers the contributions of more than 70 experts from different sectors who have analyzed the risks and challenges to move towards the digitization of urban and rural environments in the short and medium term, proposing the necessary tools to address them. The publication has been prepared in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization, the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Agenda 2030 and the Urban Agendas.

  • The guide coversthe four most frequent aspects related to the digitization of cities and towns(mobility, energy, public services and citizen participation) and is structured in five thematic axes that provide the backbone of digital development:
    • Digitized territory: It encompasses the digitization of public space and its services, and all those services that benefit and promote the quality of life of citizens.
    • Digitized buildings: this refers to management control and improved efficiency of buildings, as well as the lives of the people who occupy them, providing them with the necessary technology to reduce their energy consumption.
    • New intelligent mobility: the aim is to optimize the different mobility systems for people and goods.
    • Digital production processes in the architecture and building sector: the focus is on the digitization of construction processes and the optimization of the professional work of architecture and engineering, reinforcing their connection with other technical fields.
    • Digitization and heritage conservation: this is framed within the rehabilitation of buildings and the conservation and preservation of buildings, where digitization plays an essential role in optimizing control and detection systems in those properties that are protected for their heritage value.
  • The 75 lines of action between now and 2030 aim to combat inequalities to allow equal access for all people and reduce the causes that favor social exclusion, deploying the fiber optic network throughout the territory to encourage social cohesion, taking into account that copper networks must be disconnected in favor of mobile fiber networks, which are more powerful and versatile.
  • The aim is to provide all buildings with the necessary technology for their optimized governance in order to reduce their energy consumption, implement a central data network to coordinate the information issued by each building and promote energy self-production with the use of traditional energies in the domestic sphere.
  • Another objective is to integrate and digitize all available transportation systems, generate information that will make it possible to choose the most efficient transportation based on the user's priorities, and use artificial intelligence for decision-making. In addition, it seeks to digitize all processes related to architecture and construction to achieve greater collaboration, coordination and efficiency in the sector, promoting digital training.
  • The actions want to generate a specific digital strategy applied to historical heritage, both to preserve its conservation and integrity and to collaborate in an appropriate direction with the tourist management that may arise. It is also proposed to promote preventive conservation through the use of technological tools that help to control humidity, contamination, pests, etc.
  • In a next stage, a follow-up will be made to obtain the necessary commitments in order to carry out the lines of action that have been specified.
