Taking advantage of the celebration in Barcelona of the Smart Cities World Congress on November 17, 2022, Argelich Networks co-organized with the Master in Digital Communication and New Technologies of Universitat Abat Oliba and the think tank Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) a conference to explain the methodology that this think tank recommends to build more prosperous societies, presenting projects carried out in different parts of the world applying the six recommended indicators.

The event occurred in the magnificent Aula Magna of that Gaudinian Mannerist-style university, the work of Antonio Gaudi's disciple, Bernardi Martorell i Puig.

The director of the degree in Journalism and the Master's degree in Digital Communication and New Technologies, Professor Dr. Juan Francisco Jiménez, acted as presenter and moderator.

The event began with a message from the co-founder of the think tank Lou Zacharilla, who thanked the university for its collaboration.

Subsequently, Agustin Argelich, principal consultant for Argelich Networks and member of the international jury of Intelligence Community of the year awards, presented in a very dynamic way the 5+1 pillars on which to build an intelligent community. When he commented on the infrastructure pillar, Agustín insisted on the critical importance of having a correct energy model. He presented Taiwan, with 15 of its 22 counties awarded by ICF, as an indisputable success case in applying those six pillars.

Next, the renowned international consultant Peter Porthaine from the Eindhoven International Project Office and director of the Eindhoven Brainport Smart District explained the history of his city linked to Philips and how it recovered from the crisis of that company by applying the triple helix model. This model is based on collaboration between governments, companies, and knowledge (universities). Mr. Porthaine is currently helping Asian cities and countries to develop. Among other cities, he advises the Vietnamese city of Bihn Duong, which has been recognized as a TOP7 Intelligent Community in 2021 and 2022.

Alexander Schmidt, CEO and founder of BABLE, a German smart city consultancy, stressed the need to accelerate innovation and change in the face of the challenge that Europe has set itself to be neutral in CO2 emissions by 2050. Schmidt recommends the application of models and solutions that have been shown useful in order to reduce implementation times and achieve the objectives set on time
