SPARCS joined 26 other European projects and initiatives under the umbrella of the European Commission with a shared stand branded European Smart Cities and Communities at the world’s leading event for cities in Barcelona from 15 to 17 November. The stand attracted more than 200 in-person participants and 3 Commission DGs for a three-day marathon presenting the progress of European Smart Cities funded through different EU funding programmes. 

Partners from VTT, the City of Espoo, Fraunhofer IAO, BABLE, CVUT and the city of Kladno, and GOPA Com. joined the Expo to present the progress made in SPARCs since the launch in 2019. 

In a special standalone booth session on Replication, Espoo, Kladno, VTT, BABLE, and Fraunhofer IAO presented why the learning system between SPARCS lighthouse and fellow cities is the critical success factor in replicating innovative solutions that help build the future of smart cities across Europe. 

SPARCS also presented at 2 of the four main agora sessions by sharing insight on the overall state of the European Smart cities and by introducing the work done on positive energy districts to its cities to achieve climate neutrality by 2030. 

The  Smart City Expo World Congress 2022 has counted 20,000+ in-person attendees and 21,000 online attendees with the participation of more than 134 countries, 400+ speakers, and 853 exhibitors.
