Challenge / Goal
Virtual reality refers to a construction of reality created by means of computer technology. Applications from the field of virtual and augmented reality are developing from a niche phenomenon into an influential future technology with a wide range of possible applications. At the end of 2019, a global analysis by the auditing and consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers produced the following result: currently, around 824,000 jobs worldwide are directly influenced by virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). By 2030, the number of people working with AR/VR could increase to 23.4 million.
Possibilities to use VR in local communities have still to be explored.
Solution
Alexander Dais, a citizen of Ludwigsburg, is fascinated by the topics of VR, visualisation, and animation with Game engine. He introduced himself to the Innovation Network of the City of Ludwigsburg in the middle of the year 2020. Together he and Jolanta Gatzanis (head of the city's innovation network) developed a concrete idea for the Blühende Barock with the world's largest pumpkin exhibition, the pilot project "Virtual Reality Experience Tour of the Pumpkin". The aim of the playful application is to present the technology of the future and to be an impulse generator to develop new solutions.
BlüBa director Volker Kugel supported the VR project from the beginning together with his pumpkin partner Jucker Farm. In addition to Alexander Dais, the Blühender Barock and Jucker Farm, other innovation network partners of the pilot project "VR Experience Tour Pumpkin" are the 3D designer Tao Zhang from the Film Academy Ludwigsburg, Andreas Hauber as main developer, Bechtle GmbH as hardware supplier and Rikker Holzbau GmbH.
Citizen participation
The project was initiated and co-implemented by a citizen.
