Use Case
Cities are struggling with an increasingly high pollution with CO2, atmospheric particular matter and nitrogen oxide. They are urgently searching for a solution for clean air in the city. Before Initiation concrete measures, however, they have to collect precise data. Only this way can cities determine where the pollution is particularly high.
This is where smart data analysis can be helpful: Telefónica NEXT participated in a pilot project founded by Climate-KIC in a consortium with South Pole Group and Teralytics. In this project, a methodology to calculate air pollution load with the help of anonymized mobile data has been developed. The project showed promising results and Telefónica NEXT and its partners now start to provide comprehensive emission analysis for cities to contribute to their fight against air pollution. In opposition to conventional methods of measurement, this solution is based on an entirely different resource: anonymized mobile network data. This provides cities with more comprehensive and quicker available data than conventional measurement methods.
