The benefits of this measure are as follows:
- prevent the neighborhood from circling to find parking
- providing data to the city council to determine the neighborhoods or spaces with more and less use, the frequency of rotation or the duration of parking (e.g. if the maximum parking time is exceeded) as well as loading and unloading.
This tool allows a more efficient planning of parking distribution in the city.
The Impulso VLCi project, which is part of Red.es and is financed by FEDER and other funds, finances 96.5% of the smart parking lots in operation, according to an agreement signed with the Diputación de Valencia in 2021. In the towns, 31 limited spaces for reduced mobility and loading and unloading were highlighted due to the agreement. In addition, the participatory budgets DecidimVLC finances 7 loading and unloading spaces in the Ciutat Vella in Valencia.
A total of 1,096 technological spaces have been reserved in different areas of Valencia: 317 for loading and unloading, 92 for cabs, and 689 for spaces reserved for PRM (people with reduced mobility). To communicate the availability of each space, a sensor was installed to detect the presence of vehicles. This transmits the information to the VLCi platform, which is connected to the AppValència, the geoportal and València Al Minuto. In this way, parking availability can be consulted in real time through these tools, which improves the efficiency of the service.
This tool helps to advance in the protection of the rights of people with functional diversity and has highlighted that there are currently 2,810 parking spaces for users with reduced mobility, 45% more than in 2015, of which a third are sensorized, and that 7,833 parking cards are being issued for this reason.
