Challenge / Goal

  • To understand the air quality impact and emission sourcing of the Hamburg port area
  • Correlation of emission data to individual vessels using the Automatic Identification System (AIS) and weather data
  • Sulphur Emission Control Area (SECA) and Nitrous Oxide Emission Control Area (NECA) compliance monitoring

Solution

  • Deploy air quality sensors on the waterfront (including citizens as hosts)
  • Collect hyperlocal emission (air quality) data in real-time, via an Environmental Intelligence Cloud platform
  • Correlate data with AIS and weather data

Citizen participation

  • Citizens act as "hosts" for sensor locations close to the waterfront
  • Data is shared via a citizen portal (this is optional)
