Use Case
The city and port area are facing major road works and need to be kept accessible and liveable. Within the scope of PORTIS, an adapted SUMP for city and port will be developed. To make sure that it is widely supported by residents and commuters to the city and port of Antwerp, public involvement is necessary. An exercise will be done to adjust and complete the available data. As a result, new mobility solutions can be designed.
1. In February 2017 the “Treaty for the future” on how the city will keep its region accessible and liveable was signed between different stakeholders involved in transport and mobility in Antwerp and the region surrounding it. This treaty will is being operationalized in a Roadmap 2030. Also a new cooporation model, involving all stakeholders (Flemish Government, Port Authority, municipalities, PT- operators, civic movements,..), is being set up. So instead of a new SUMP, the City of Antwerp will geographically and institutionally upscale its activity to the level of the city region (including 32 municipalities) and actively cooperate in this policy and planning process.
2. The marketing startegy Smart Ways to Antwerp is up and running since the beginning of PORTIS and is a constant process of implementing, evaluating, re-thinking, adapting, adding new ideas. Different target groups are adressed with this strategy; commuters, companies, citizens, freight traffic, mobility providers and visitors, each with their own approach and actions.
