Challenge / Goal
The challenge being faced by the citizens of Halle, was that there were different apps and thus solutions needed to plan trips in the city and surrounding area. Simply put, there was no central platform where users could find all necessary mobility related information, both solutions and in terms of regional infrastructure.
This central platform would allow for all the data to be bundled and visualised. The creation of such a platform would have the potential to vastly improve real-time communication for the end users, helping the citizens of Halle in their daily lives, work and other activities.
Solution
The solution to this challenge, was the creation of a multimodal mobility application that brings together all mobility infrastructural informaiton in the city.
This app includes a map, which provides all relevant information to the individual person concerning mobility. For example the map shows ÖPNV timetabling, taxis, car-sharing, parking, e-charging stations, and even up to date construction sites labelling. The map is integrated into the Stadtwerke-App and the homepage, as well as accessible on a touch-screen in the service center.
The control room (Leitstelle) has a back-end that facilitates direct communication of changes and incidents through the map. The back-end uses AI to automise test generation and multi-channel social media communication, mostly across twitter and facebook.
Citizen participation
A number of surveys and questionnaires were conducted to find out the views of the citizens, and what they most wanted included in the app.
