Challenge / Goal
In order to encourage citizens to leave their cars at home, the whole process of planning, reservation, and payment of their transport is now available on their cell phones as the Zaragoza Urban Mobility (ZUM) app. In this way, citizens can easily choose the most comfortable, sustainable, or economic routes depending on their preferences. Zaragoza is the first city in Spain to deploy a MaaS (Mobility as a Service) model to its full potential, making it a reference city for sustainable and multimodal mobility.
Solution
As a multimodal planner, ZUM allows for reserving a complete trip according to different criteria:time, cost, sustainability, and health. All this, using the different integrated modes of transport: urban bus, tram, taxis digitised by Karhoo and Bizi’s public bicycles.
ZUM also gives the user the option to pay using the app and offers to virtualiseZaragoza’s regular transport pass or acquire it digitally, reducing physical contact in the current pandemic context.
Citizen participation
500 citizens of Zaragoza used and initially tried out the Zaragoza Urban Mobility App (ZUM).
