Challenge / Goal

The city of Saint-Imier enjoys an amazing historical heritage on watch manufacturing in Switzerland and anarchism. Unfortunately, this background is unknown to most of the population and hardly available for external visitors, except through a paper-based brochure and some old websites. The municipality was looking for a new innovative medium to share this cultural background with the population itself, as well as visitors.


The project included the participation of 4 local actors with various and complementary skills and competencies.

The technical solution is an app with a 3D map that guides visitors from one point of interest to the other in a smooth, simple, and elegant way. Every point of interest shown on the map contains interactive content that was created especially for them. By content, we mean texts, pictures, videos, audio, augmented reality, quizzes, and many more.

In the first steps of the projets, cultural mediators worked with the local official archives looking for documentation and digital assets (pictures, videos, etc.). This resulted in a selection of points of interest we wanted to guide visitors through, as well as a compelling story we wanted to tell them.

Meanwhile, Pindex provided technical expertise to guide content creators through the digital aspects of the project, helping them to take better decisions based on the capabilities of the system used.

In the end, a professional designer took care of giving our tour a nice touch-and-feel.

Citizen participation

The voice of some citizens were included in the content of the tour itself. To give more authenticity to our story, we recorded some of them to get their memories / testimonials on some places and events taking place in the last century.
