Challenge / Goal
Promote and motivate local residents to use cycling as a free and daily alternative of transport.
Many citizens did not use bikes for working or going to school, because they were afraid of having their bikes stolen.
Get the city’s population to be more active and healthy.
4 bicycle storages were installed in different urban areas of Klaipeda, thus making cycling available and affordable not only for tourists, but for locals, too. The main purpose of this project is to present and promote bicycles as a free alternative way to get around. Therefore, by implementing the new bike storage system, owners could leave their bicycles safe from thefts, as well as from any damages caused by weather conditions. Bike counters will identify bicycles only, ignoring motorized vehicles and recoding passing cycling flows. Collected data will appear on the website, being available for different reports and statistics.
Citizens were involved by survey about the installation of public bicycle storage facilities in Klaipeda city. The survey involved 670 residents.
