Challenge / Goal

Under the EU Horizon 2020 GrowSmarter Project, a lot of innovative, smart solutions are included in the refurbishment of buildings in three building zones with different building types – residential buildings from 1960s, industrial buidlings from 1910 and residential buildings from 2007 in the City of Stockholm. In order tomaximise the benfits of the energy retrofits in these buildings and reduce the energy costs, proactive maintenance was identified suitable. The city considers energy saving to be an ongoing process involving the right technique, the right maintenance but also the right behaviour.

Solution

A remote energy saving centre called Hubgrade was implemented in the three buildings in Stockholm. It combines real-time monitoring and remote management with on-site technician deployments — in other words, targeted energy management that generates guaranteed savings. Hubgrade results in preventive and corrective actions before teh customer is impacted, thanks to the interplay between centralised monitoring, on-site technicians, and advanced software technology. Analysis is based on real-time monitoring and trends. Energy consumption is monitored regularly and compared to benchmark values.
Hubgrade combines Technical Facility Management and Energy Management to secure buildings’ energy performance and reduce energy costs. The buildings are 24/7 monitored providing alarms on temperature fall or unwished raise in energy use that can be easily detected. Analysis and comparison is also made in order to regulate consumption at the desired level. If necessary, the parameters can be adjusted remotely from the Operations Centre

The building’s  existing control systems are connected to the Hubgrade © software. Additional devices, such as indoor temperature sensors, are installed. Data is collected from the District Heating Network, water sensors and electrical sensors through automatic meter readings, allowing users to read the live data and respond proactively. Analysis and comparison is made to regulate consumption at a desired level.
