Challenge / Goal

Digital communication in public space is vital component of the Smart City concept. The city of Wuppertal wanted to create a digital infrastructure as a new communication medium between city and citizens in public space.

Solution

To support the municipality of Wuppertal with their goals, Stroeer provided the city with the necessary digital infrastructure'.  The digital infrastructure informs residents as well as travelers in places where many of them gather. As part of urban communication management, relevant information such as municipal messages, service information and even warnings are broadcasted throughout the city.
8 screens, each 10.5m2 wide are installed at major traffic intersections in the inner city of Wuppertal. The screens have been displayed just above the traffic lights, at the subway stations and at bus stops. The screens are equipped with latest LED technology and have an aspect ratio of 16:10. In 3 minute program loops, in addition to advertising editorial content, there is also regional issues covered such as city news and weather broadcast. The screens provide an interesting opportunity for local businesses to promote themselves.  Additionally, in co-operation with the Wuppertal Marketing Gmbh, the famous sights in the city are also displayed in the foreground. The system is financed by the advertising revenues and comes at no extra cost for the city. Along with advertisements, it is used to display local information like weather, city news and warnings.
