Digital Twin for PEDS

This virtual twin focuses on all energy demands (electricity, district heating) and on-site electricity production from PV.

Overview of the product

VTT's virtual twin focuses on all energy demands (electricity, district heating) and on-site electricity production from PV. Optionally, virtual twin can also include electricity battery, EV charging and participation to the electricity market (FCR-N), as well as heat performance and storing energy to building structures. Virtual twin visualises also the measurement values and the results in 3D building model (BIM).

State of the art, Innovations and Differentiation Points, Benefits

The first version of VTT’s digital twin predicts online the electricity and heating demand, as well as PV production and EV charging in Sello for the next 24 hours (with as small difference to monitored data as possible). The used digital twins are artificial neural networks (ANN) models which are learned and validated with related learning and test datasets. The virtual twins and related predictions are running on VTT’s server and can be used via REST interfaces or online dashboards.

The digital twin can help to run a Virtual Power Plant in Sello. It can be used also for improving the energy performance optimization and for detecting possible faults and inefficient performance of the building energy systems. In addition, the selected data and results of digital twin can be visualised in a building related 3D BIM model.

The potential end users of the Digital Twin for PEDs are building managers, building operators and VPP operators.
