Summary: European local governments and companies are encouraged to take part in the Data Space for Smart Communities initiative. This project aims to create a secure, inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous future through a robust data ecosystem. 

Project details: the initiative seeks pilot project proposals during its deployment phase, offering a significant budget of 15 million euros for 10-12 selected proposals.

Official call opening: the official call opening is on 17th January 2024, at the "Open & Agile Smart Cities Conference" in Rotterdam.

Online info session: scheduled for 15th November 2023, between 1 pm and 3 pm (CEST/Brussels time). Register here.

Purpose: the initiative aims to establish an open and interconnected data ecosystem, empowering individuals, organizations, and communities with secure data-driven solutions. Governance remains central, fostering practical implementation in European cities and communities.

Support: comprehensive support, including expert-driven mentoring and training programs, will be provided to ensure the success of the pilot projects.

Initiative timeline: the Data Space for Smart Communities initiative began on 1st October 2023, laying the groundwork for robust, value-based data governance in alignment with EU Digital Decade goals.
