The projects entails the installation of a heat exchanger and water-to-water heat pumps that will recover the heat from sewage water in order to improve the efficiency of gas fired heaters in schools
Three pipes circular sewer system
[...] sewage pipe was transformed into three sewage pipes in order to separate municipal waste water. One pipe collects food waste, the second black water and the third grey water. Grey water is recovered for cooling
Big Belly Bins
[...] The 'Big Belly Bins' are fitted with waste compactors which ensure they need emptied less often than standard designs. The innovative bins have proved to need emptying 7 times less than standard bin designs

Low Temperature District Heating (LTDH) and Smart Controllers
• NCC created an efficient citywide heat network.
• The project enabled Nottingham to cope with climate change and build resilience to external energy prices
• The heat source is Energy from Waste (EfW), which is recovered by the incineration of waste; offsetting approx. 27K tonnes of CO2 emissions per year
• Customers received a far more efficient energy supply than those with gas boiler
