Smart Parking in Aachen
As a pilot project, we installed 13 sensors in the Friedrichstraße to generate a digital twin of the city with live data about the current parking situation. This information is accessible via an API to be used an analyzed by the partners of this project. In additon to that the residents of that area can always see the occupation of all parking spots live on their phones via a mobile web interface.

Things Connected IOT Network
This use case partnered solution designers with challenge owners and set them on a course for co-designing and developing solutions that were not readily available on the market thus encouraging truely innovative solutions for unmet needs.
It also held a number of design led workshops with partners from a number of vertical industries including Mobility, Tourism, Circular Economy, Health and Smart Buildings to better understand some of the industry pain points that might be solved using IOT.
Geospatial Analysis for EV Infrastructure Planning
Energeo are in discussions with East Lothian now to undertake further analysis to support their urban mobility initiatives. Service development is also underway to integrate Energeo's renewable energy data to enable identification of clean, local and off-grid power supply to the EVCP's, and local grid infrastructure data to allow determination of grid constraints and grid impact of EVCP installation. Additionally, Energeo are developing a SaaS platform that would enable the end user to access this data through a browser, and run EVCP deployment scenarios on the fly to determine impacts
Encouraging Cycling in Antwerp
1. The city of Antwerp has further expanded its city bike shairng system Velo, installing stations in surrounding districts and expanding existing stations.
2. New bicycle signage has been designed and the placing on the streets will start in Q3-2019 and finish by Q4-2019. The signage will be based on the supra-local bicycle routes (provincial bicycle routes) as determined within the mobility plan of the city of Antwerp.
3. A new concept has been launched to overcome water barriers for cyclists: the Bikebus. Cyclists cannot cross the river Scheldt in the port area
Munich SmartCity App
The Munich SmartCity app is an example of how to make an existing offer smarter – within the Smarter Together project the Munich app became the Munich SmartCity app in January 2018 by adding additional smart services as well as a more user-friendly design.
The new smart app services are worth a closer look: When a user opens the app, the home screen displays information about their current location and smart services offered there. Mobility service is one of the central functions of the app: In the interactive city map they can find public transport, cycle hire, car sharing services
Smart Data Platform & Data Gatekeeper
The “Smart Data Platform” offers several interfaces to enter the data from different use case scenarios of the project Smarter Together (e.g. energy, sensors and mobility stations). Data formats and protocols are all based on open standards. The platform allows analyzing the available data and provides the results into an analysis dashboard. Selected results are accessible for a broader public via the Munich SmartCity app. Depending on the use case, the platform’s analysis engine can combine several data sources and merge the information to show dependencies and patterns
Onboard Contactless Ticketing
Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, was one of the first cities in the world to implement true Account-Based Ticketing (ABT) for public transport. The system was introduced in 2004 enabling Estonian ID-code holding citizens the right to buy tickets and season passes online or via mobile phones. For each citizen travel rights were stored in the ABT system’s back-office and verified against a person’s ID code using handheld devices onboard vehicles by ticket inspectors. Refurbishment and modernisation of energy supply
Lorystraße 54-60 (95 flats, 8.800 m²) is a city-owned social housing block, managed by Wiener Wohnen. The following technical improvements were planned:
▪ refurbishment of the building envelope from 125 to 52 kWh/m2 for space heating and warm water
▪ efficiency improvements to energy supply
▪ installation of PV plants of 7 kWp on the roof
▪ preparation of the parking garage for e-mobility
▪ ICT-based central management and monitoring of all buildings supplied by distance heating

Vesputi Network Simulator and Optimizer
The tool allows to simulate transit schedules and compare them to actual data with the aim to analyze bottle necks in the transit network and optimize operations.
Enhanced wayfinding provision would assist in delivering economic benefits, such as those sought within the Regional Economic Strategy, by encouraging those on foot to explore, linger and engage with the city centre beyond the demands of their immediate schedule.
Freight Routeing & Mapping
Aberdeen city is unusual in the sense that it's port is in the very heart of the city centre. NESTRANS undertook an analysis of freight data, and consulted with freight companies, to better understand the routes being used in the city region.
Integrating The Collective Transport Network in Antwerp
In order to link the city of Antwerp with its port area, efforts are made to expand and promote the public transport network in and around the city.
Connecting Transport Systems
Antwerp wants to provide locations – such as P&R’s in the city outskirts – where commuters can easily switch from one transportation mode to a more sustainable other when traveling to and from their work in the city or port area.
Demand Management - Transport
There are three Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs) of which the city centre is of most concern due to a higher number of pollution exceedances. A Strategic Car Parking Review was undertaken during 2017 and 2018 which essentially formed a baseline of car parking in the city centre.
Aberdeen City Council has undertaken, and is involved in, a number of hydrogen projects and we are very advanced in this new technology. This use case will discuss our hydrogen bus project and refuelling stations.
Street Damage Mapping in Bağcılar Municipality
A city wide scan for road damage was incorporated through vehicular IoT and management of repairs were handled by AI creating automated task management to perfectly decrease complaints of road damage while decreasing a grand amount in public works costs. Preventive maintenance is implemented.
Developing Dynamic Traffic Management
Antwerp is a lively and vibrant city with many different traffic flows: citizens, visitors, commuters, students, freight and logistics. This also leads to many different transport modes sharing space. Measures are taken to manage this in an efficient way, to keep the city accessible and liveable.
