Switching from steam based to water based heating systems powered by biomass
Challenge / Goal
The aim of the use case is to provide a nearly CO2 neutral heat supply in Strijp-S, through replacing heat provision utility (gas) with one powered by renewable energy (biomass).
Solutions
Standard & Technical Details: 2.5km of piping, 8.2 MW heat and 1.6 MW of electricity biomass plant.
The solution is changing steam pipes to district heating based on water as energy transmitter. The power is supplied via a biomass power plant owned by the municipality. Pipes can be used with any other water based heat production system. The biomass power plant is fueled by the waste of public green spaces.
