Challenge / Goal
The former Philips industrial complex in the “Strijp-S” neighborhood of Eindhoven is being transformed into a creative smart district. The developer also aims to promote sustainable public transportation modes and hence the use of electric cars.
A smart charging system has been developed within the existing infrastructure, optimizing the use of charging stations. The project involved the purchase of several intelligent charging stations and the development of an effective means of communication (through an app), allowing a more efficient use of the infrastructure by more users.
6 Type-2 AC chargers have been installed in Strijp-S with two charging points: one located in a parking garage and two in open parking lots to support charging of Electric Vehicles. Additionally, a fast charger was installed at Strijp-S to fit the demand for people shortly visiting the location to charge their vehicles immediately.
The supplier of the charging poles implemented the European Charging standard Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) on their charging poles. Users can see charging information via the App developed by the supplier Ecotap. Via the app “Laadstations” all people can see the actual (near real-time) charging status. The completed information system offers a dashboard for users (via the existing Ecotap app) and Mobility-S via an online portal. This Mobility-S dashboard gives the opportunity to monitor the usage, occupancy and payments of the charging poles.
Peak load management system/charging management system is included in the project which enables the use of the system as a smart grid.
