Challenge / Goal

The world is getting more and more digital. The availability of information is increasing. This information, also called data, is of valuable significance. You can predict certain issues, reflect on matters that have happened and compare them. The Municipality of Eindhoven aims at making its data accessible to its citizens and works works together with different organizations and stakeholders in the city, to stimulate more data usage..

The main aim is to

  • increase transparency with citizen as well as companies,
  • increase internal efficiency and
  • create economical value by reuse of data.

Solution

The Open Data Portal of Eindhoven contains the publically accessible data from the city and the companies in the area. Initially, the municipality planned to develop the open data portal internally. However, after a market consultation and testing, the city decided to choose for a commercially available platform from Open Data Soft. The main focus was to develop a user friendly platform which can be used easily by the people. Discussion functionalities on data set level is available to facilitate interaction between data owners and users. The municipality continuously works towards improving the platform functionalities. 

The platform also has a detailed 4 step guide to support public sector representatives in opening up their data.
