Challenge / Goal
Valladolid had a problem of high levels of pollution, as well as congestion in the city centre. A number of ways were identified to help deal with these overarching problems.
Firstly, awareness needed to be raised of the green transport alternatives available, including the fostering of electric vehicle usage. This being done successfully would also help reduce transportation costs in the city. In addition and supplementary to this, proof neded to be provided as to the viability, at least at an organisational level, of these alternative forms of transport.
Solution
The city decided the best initial solution to these problems would by showing off alternative transport viability themselves. A fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) were shared amongst the municipality staff for their own use. The results of their usage were monitored and managed remotely through a web interface and via installed on-board equipment.
