Challenge / Goal
Traditional lampposts consume huge amounts of energy. The aim is to use the most successful techonology(-ies) in the city’s lighting program. Studies show that up to 50 % energy can be saved by optimising the use of street lighting and this can also reduce the operation and maintenance cost of the public lighting system.
Under the Smart Lighting measure of the Grow Smarter project, the goal is to demonstrate and test three different technologies for smart street lighting: remote, self-controlled and sensor-controlled LED lighting, for pedestrians and cyclists and how these solutions increase traffic safety and perceived security. Another aspect of the investigation is to test different manufacturers, technologies and CMS in the same system, which previously has been difficult due to proprietary issues. The aim is to identify the best technology which can be scaled up in the city of Stockholm.
In this Use Case, Standalone system with automatic dimming during 6 hours of the night is piloted an analysed. Each individual light fitting records when it is turned on and off and uses those times to calculate the middle point. From that middle point, the effect islowered to 66% for a duration of 6 hours, or until it is turned off.
