Ludwigsburg's market square is a charming and popular attraction for guests and citizens of the city. The parking spaces in the immediate vicinity are therefore in great demand. In some little streets it can therefore easily come back to jams and other traffic congestion. After parking, drivers can only drive backwards out of the cul-de-sac, while drivers who are already waiting rate an exit vehicle as a free parking space and try their luck by driving into the street. But then there is no free parking space. With a digital device, the so-called ParkingSpotter, as a technical eye, the Eberhardstraße on both sides of the Catholic Church will now provide reliable parking management and optimal traffic flow. The aim of the pilot project is to reduce the amount of traffic in the cul-de-sac, thus reducing the risk of pedestrians, reducing exhaust fumes, saving time for those looking for a parking space, and thus improving the quality of life in the city.
MHP is testing its self-developed ParkingSpotter as part of the Living LaB innovation network in Ludwigsburg. The system is aimed at extremely high accuracy at low costs. The casing comes cost-effectively from the 3D printer.
The technical eye has helped to improve the situation on the ground: From a lamppost, the ParkingSpotter "observes" the parking spaces, takes several pictures per minute and sends a current status to a computer at the Ludwigsburg company MHP, which receives regular updates as to whether or not there is a free parking space in Eberhardstraße along the church.
