Eilat
About us
The Eilat-Eilot region has 63,000 residents and three million tourists that are visiting the city each year. Eilat is leading many innovative R&D projects in the fields of sustainability (e.g., The Green Neighborhoods Project), energy efficiency, smart transport and IoT solutions. Through the Eilat-Eilot Renewable Energy Initiative, Eilat has become a leader in energy efficiency, as 75% of the city's daytime electricity is supplied by renewable energy sources. The concrete plans to double the size of the city bring rapid economic change and large investments in the fields of energy efficiency, renewables, infrastructure, and mobility.
Eilat is Israel’s first smart city. It began developing this vision in 2012, by hiring a professional expert to draft and develop the smart city plan. Today, Eilat has more than 35 smart city initiatives. Fully 70% of the city's daily energy consumption is already supplied by renewable energy sources (photovoltaic – PV), and the mayor has set his sights on reaching full energy independence by 2020.
